The Story / Challenge
IKEA wants to grow beyond the furniture business and increase the number of customer interactions. By broadening the perspective to the ecosystem of “Living at home” new opportunities evolve but requires a solid strategy to prioritize and align all initiatives.
Together with fastbreak.one, IKEA wanted to create a shared understanding, create an ecosystem and platform strategy, initiate and launch the first platforms and to equip the teams with the right methodologies and entrepreneurial tools.
The Role of fastbreak.one
fb1 supported the IKEA teams (ranging from top management to innovation teams) along the journey from creating a shared understanding towards the launch and scale of the first ventures.
We run masterclasses on platform economics, ecosystem strategies and platform venture building. Equipping the teams with solid understanding, tools and insights. Making them ready to take on the action.
To grow beyond the core required to broaden the perspective to discover adjacent opportunities. Therefore we created an Ecosystem Strategie for the market “Living at Home” consisting of multiple strategic growth areas. The strategy included the evaluation of the opportunities, to prioritize them, align them into a roadmap, setting up the right governance and allocate resources. It ended in a broader communication and rollout.
We supported the innovation team to explore and validate selected marketplace opportunities to ensure you build a platform the users really value and want to use.
Launching a marketplace requires a mix of activities and therefore coordination and focus. We supported the IKEA venture team to avoid cost-of-delay and to launch on time coordinating cross-functional teams and providers. With our fast-time-to-market approach and methodology a successful launch was possible.
